Do you have green urine?

Once in a while, I will receive an email asking about green urine. To share with all of you who is reading this blog, green urine can be normal or a serious problem.

Let's understand how did green urine comes about.
  1. Did you make any changes to existing diet?
  2. Have you been taking a lot of Asparagus recently?
  3. Did you take a lot of B-complex recently?
  4. Are you on certain medications?
If your answer is yes to any of the above questions, then it can be the reason why you are having green urine.

On the other hand, let's say your answer is "I don't know". Let's look at your urine again. Is it a brighter green or darker green?

A brighter green indicates that you have taken too much B-complex. You may want to reduce it. If not, just let it be. Drink lots of water and do more exercise.

If it is a darker green, then it indicates that you may have a bile problem or urinary tract infections.

Bile problem usually is related to gallstones or Liver. Click here on how to detox and remove your gallstones without any surgery

Lastly, this is the most critical question. Do you feel any pain or ache in your lower back area? if you do, I will seriously advise you to see a doctor and do a thorough checkup on your kidney.

  1. Last night, for the first time, I took a milk thistle supplement and I had green urine this morning. I attributed it to that, although I am finding nothing on the internet that says that can happen from milk thistle supplements.

However, I do have lower back pain lately, which I attributed to being overweight and having a job where I'm on my feet all day.

So I don't know what to think.

  2. hi,

It is obvious that you may have a bile problem. Thus, you experienced green urine when you took Milk Thistle.

Perhaps, you may want to answer these questions yourself.

Do you have a high animal fat diet?
Do you take a lot of red meat?
Do you take a lot of seafood?

    Cheers

  3. My GF said she was experiencing stomach pains and that she had green urine, she is worried that this may point to her being pregnant. Is there any truth to what she thinks?

  4. Hi,

It is best to do a checkup. However, my own thought, it maybe due to bile problem. Pregnancy does not lead to green urine.

Is it a bright or dark green urine?

  5. She said it was bright green.

  6. did she take any B-complex or vitamin B? If she did, then it maybe due to the supplements.

If not, it maybe due to bile problem. you mentioned about stomach pain. A lot of time it maybe a bile area pain.

Perhaps, ask your GF to go for an examination to check for gallstones. However, before doing that, do seek your doctor advice first.

  7. my urine and my stools have been green for over a week. i have slight pains in my lower stomach but not serious my husband says its from all the mountain dew that i drink is this true i am scared

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi,

How many bottles of mountain dew of you been drinking per day?

I really can't imagine that you can have green urine and stool by drinking mountain dew.

To get a green stool, you have to take a lot of chlorophyll rich food. Have you been taking it? If not, it doesn't make sense to get green stool.

Secondly, you mentioned that you are having green urine. Sometimes it maybe due to the artificial colouring in the food. And I believe moutain dew may have it. However, you have to drink a lot of it to cause your kidney not to be able to filter it.

I will also suggest that you seek medical advice on your green urine. Sometimes, it may have gallstones problem.

  9. hi,

i had a bad flu, starting with about 12 hours of vomiting, loss of appetite, and then ordinary sore throat and stuffy nose. i was taking pepto bismol, dayquil, nyquil, sudafed, and excedrin. last night i peed a light brown, this morning it was green. i'm going to cut the meds and see what happens before booking a trip to the doctor, but is there anything else i should be worried about? i had back pain along with the vomiting, but it went away a few days ago.

  10. Hi,

I will suggest that you stop taking your medicine and drink lots of water. See what's the outcome of your urine.

If it continues, I will suggest you seek medical advise.

Futhermore, if you are having a flu, it is a virus infection and no medicine can help.

You simply need to have more rest.

    Hope this help.

  13. I started taking a one a day viatimin by supernutrition, and now I'm noticing light greenish color. Probably too much B vit then. I wondered if it was the alphalfa that was listed as an additional ingredient. Perhaps I'll start cutting those pills in half.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi,

I don't think you need to cut it into half. Alfafa will not give you green urine. It is the b-complex.

Just continue to take it for a few days and drinks lots of water. If it persists, then cut it to half.

    Hope this help.

  15. I noticed when I take a multi-vitamin for men that my urine does turn a bright green. Would this be attributed to the b12? If so, should I be worried? As it is the package recommends I take 2 tablets a day and I have only been taking 1.

  16. Hi,

I think there is nothing you need to worry. Follow the instructions for a few day and observe your urine.

If you feel that there is something wrong, please consult the person who sold you the product.

    Hope this help.

  17. Hi Kenny,

I have been vomiting for days now and so dizzy i cant stand it. I started peeing green yesterday but i have not really had any pains in my stomach or my back so to say more really a dull ache but today i have started getting sharp pains that last for a few seconds and then go back to being a dull ache. I also have been peeing more. I went to my doctor and he just stared at me as if i was making it that up that i was peeing green. He did a urine test and said i had a UTI but i believe it is something more than a UTI cause i have had them before and have never had green urine no matter how bad the uti was. im just wondering if you think i should seek out another doctor or what? He did ask me to go to the lab and give them a blood sample. Im worried cause it is dark green after i have slept all night and then it gets light after the first time i go to the bathroom in the morning and then gets darker as the day goes on i drink lots of water so i dont really knwo what to do anymore.

  18. Hi Sarah,

Usually certain food colouring or Vitamin B will cause green urine.

Are you taking any form of vitamin B right now before you sleep or throughout the day?

Another reason of having green urine maybe an indication of gall related problem.

I will suggest you seek a specialist advice from hospital rather than those from community clinics.

    Hope this help.

  19. hi,
i had green urine today and the doctor already is thinking gallstones might be a problem. i have an ulstrasound booked in a couple of days. She also says i might have acid reflux or an ucler, but this green urine looks like its more of a problem with gall blader. Gallstones run in my family but I am only a teenager and apparently its uncommon to get them this young!

  20. Hi,

Gallstones happens in all ages. The only problem is whether it is giving you discomfort. If you say Gallstones run in your family, does it mean most people in your family is diagnosed with Gallstones problem?

If it does, what kind of diet is your entire family having? Rich in fatty meat? Rich in saturated fat diet?

Basically this kind of diet will lead to Gallstone problem. And of course, if everybody is eating the same food, this problem will run in the family.

I will suggest you do a Gallstone flush to resolve it. Remember, removal gallbladder will only lead to more problems in the future.

Gallstones problem is simply a diet problem.

Please click this URL to follow the instructions on the flush.

  23. hi, I hav been sick for the last two weekss, and noticed this morning that my urine has turned a bright/neon green, it started right after I took supplements like creatine, vitamin E, fish oil, and a multi vitamin, because i wanted to start working out again
today was my last day on antibiotics as well, which i have been on for the past nine days
i also had a surgery to remove my gallbladder year ago
    i am 16
    can you help me please?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi,

I suspect your multi-vitamin may contain a high level of vitamin B, which caused the bright/neon green urine.

I suggest you stop the multi-vitamin for a few days and observe the outcome. If your urine is still green, please consult a doctor and do a thorough health check.

    Hope this help.

  25. Hi, I have had green urine for years but after doing a colon cleansing course and taking robert grays lactobacteria food the urine looks more normal colour of yellow. Also removing candida infection. I think this the root of the problem. Basically a toxic system which will cause problems for the liver and gall bladder.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi there,

I would really appreciate your input. For the past couple of weeks now I have been noticing my urine is green. It seems to happen a few times a day. First thing in the morning it is normal, but then, through the rest of the day, if I am drinking the right amount of fluids, it is green. If I am dehydrated it is dark yellow.

I am concerned. I haven't changed my diet. I am not on any medications whatsoever. I am not taking vitamins. I've eaten no asparagus. I have a healthy, normal diet with low meat intake (small portions once a day or two), and lots of veggies grown in my garden.

I am prone to bladder infections, and can usually tell when one is coming on. Green urine has never been something that has happened before. I am worried. Should I be? Could this be related to dizzy spells I was having a couple of weeks ago (when the green pee started)?

  27. Could green urine be associated with a Zeaxanthin supplement?

  28. I have been having other problems like heart burn and major head aches also i have been having nasua and loss of balance, this worries me because i have noticed my urine being green and i am a little scared

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi,

I understand your anxiety over your green urine. However, may I suggest that you go for a health check first?

Furthermore, problem like heart burn and headaches are signs of either depression, allergies or over eating.

  30. Hi there, I started on a special diet recently (because I had very bad headaches , depression, and heart burn like the person in the earlier comment) and I have to take vitamin B, C and also iron supplements because I am anaemic, since I have started with the diet and supplements I am experience bright yellow-greenish urine and dark-greenish stool. So I am guessing my symptoms are because of the food supplements? so I should't worry, right? Also is it strictly necessary that I stop taking the vitamin B supplements? because I'm feeling very good lately and I'm afraid of spoiling it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes. You shouldn't be worried about it. What you can do is to stop for a day or two and watch the colour of your stool. If it is non-greenish and it becomes greenish once you start to take your supplements again, then you can safely say it is the supplements that are causing the colour change.

  32. Hello, recently I have started taking 5 tbsp of hemp hearts every morning and I eat a very healthy diet (little sugar, almost no meat except fish, whole grains, lots of fruit and vegetables)I eat this way for health reasons and also because I have a some strange digestive problems that doctors can't quite figure out. Anyway, this morning I had light green urine, and I was wondering if it could possibly be the hemp hearts?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi,

Why not you try stop taking hemp hearts? If it the green urine stops, then it must be it.

  34. Hi Sometimes when I smoke alot of weed my urine is a light green color the next day. I've been detoxing for over a week now, taking cranberry supplements and alot of water to flush out my system. The past two days my urine has been a light green color. Do you think that this is the THC coming out of my system?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi Chris,

I really have no idea. However, it is best that you check with a doctor. Most importantly, do stop smoking and your health will be in great shape.

    Cheers...

  36. I have had greenish urine AND reddish urine. I have had pain in my kidneys as well (i think). I have been eating quite a lot of hot peppers and garlic for a while to rid myself of candida. Could this be the cause? I have stopped eating these and things improved for a day or two but I have just had green urine again. What is wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi,

Green urine maybe due to diet and etc...However, reddish urine is definitely a concern. May I suggest you check with your doctor.

  38. Hi kenny, i just recently just started to notice that i have light yellow green urine, accompanied by some back pains that feels like bruising to the touch (middle left) although there is no visible bruising. I do think its inside. I could feel it when i bend forward or maybe strech sideways. I also have lightheadedness but nothing i cant shake. But sometimes i feel like im about to vomit but i never do when im actually infront of the toilet bowl i just sit there gagging and spitting. Im also extremely fatigued very easily. Pls help me figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey, hope you're well.
I have started getting really bad pains in my lower back and all my insides feel warm (kind of like that warm fussy feeling you get when you have the die injected for a ct scan)
I also have bright green urine and I can barely stand up.
I had my gallbladder out last year and had a p.e following surgery.
Should I be worried or do you think it is something that will go away on its own soon?
    Thanks.
