Lancet formally retracts 1998 paper linking vaccine and autism
Here's the problem, when a baby receive a vaccination, he or she will have fever and they can't tell you. The only way to know is to observe, constantly checking their temperature and see whether they are showing sign of tiredness or they are still active.
For some cases, babies will have high fever and you won't know until don't know when. And by then, their brain or hearing maybe affected. Although we can give our babies crushed bio-C and put in their drink or, give them cherry drink, I still feel that this is not the solution.
Most importantly, it is best to give them vaccination when they can start expressing themselves. Anyway, this is my personal view. Do take it with a pinch of salt.

China milk problem, so how now?
- Milk is mucus forming. That means, it causes allergy. If you or your kids have sinus problem, I suggest you remove milk or any dairy related products from your diet.
- Milk increases the risk of hormone related cancer such as prostate or breast cancer.
- Milk increases the risk of type 1 diabetes in children.

Beware, the junk food trap
By Shuhada Elis
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Breakfast cereals, aggressively advertised and promoted as healthy food for children, are making them fat, even obese.
Do not be fooled by the nutritional benefits printed on cereal boxes as the food inside is laden with fat, sugar and salt. This damning judgment is contained in the Junk Food Trap Report released by Consumers International (CI) here yesterday.
Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) secretary-general Muhammad Sha'ani Abdullah warned that the junk food trap would cause hypertension, diabetes and high-cholesterol problems in Malaysia to soar.
Fomca is a member of CI.
Sha'ani said the impact such food had on Malaysian children and the national health budget was "too alarming" to ignore.
Last year, the Health Ministry spent RM180 million or 20 per cent of its RM900 million budget on drugs for chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol.
CI Kuala Lumpur regional office head Datuk Indrani Thuraisingham said children brought up on these cereals, as well as fast food and drinks, faced a "health time bomb".
The Junk Food Trap Report revealed that each 100g box of cereal could contain up to 25 teaspoons of sugar.
The report was compiled based on a study of foods targeted at children below the age of 16, marketed by six multinational companies in eight countries.
Indrani said the research found that children were falling for the marketing ploys of foods that were high in fat, sugar and salt.
"These companies share the same characteristics. They use cartoon characters, cele-brities, free toys and competitions to attract children.
"But their food and drinks have a negative impact on children's health."
The research was conducted from April to June by CI representatives in Malaysia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand and the Philippines.
Indrani said fast food companies were also using insidious ways to sell to children, such as setting up membership clubs.
She said one international fast food chain had about 58,000 members in its club.
"Sometimes these companies go to schools to conduct activities, an indirect way of marketing to kids."
Sha'ani said Fomca would urge the government to develop stringent guidelines against the marketing of unhealthy food.
"Junk food marketing is a serious threat that we should address. They should stop promoting unhealthy food in schools in whatever form."
Fomca would ask for funding from the Health Ministry to conduct research on the impact of food marketing to children as it wanted the government to focus on preventive health care.
Sha'ani said it would also lobby the government to adopt the International Code on Marketing of Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages to Children, which had been submitted to the World Health Organisation.
Among the code's guidelines are a ban on radio or TV advertisements of unhealthy food from 6am to 9pm, ban on the inclusion of free toys or cartoon characters in food packaging and a ban on using new media, such as the Internet, and text messaging to lure the children.

it is common to have kids having allergic reaction to certain animals such as cats or rabbits. This is due to these animals fine hairs flying around and trigger an allergic reaction in the air passage way. The most important is to remove the root cause. Try not to keep pets that shed hair often.
If not, get a air cleansing system like Atmosphere to clean the air regularly.
Fever
---------------------------------------------
HI Kenny,
Sori to bothr u again. My 3yr-old girl has fever for 3x now. First was last 2wks bcoz of cough, got better bt fever came back, was ok since then. For d past 3dys, she got high fever again. I've bn spongg her n gv acerola cherry. Wats ur adv?

She's in nursery, there r a few kids who r havin flu, cough00 bt nt sure abt fever. I cn grind bio c for her n put in her acerola cherry, wd dat b ok? Do u thk her fever is due to viral infectn?

Most likely. It is common among kids if they are in a childcare. And yes, u can grind it an dput it int cherry.
******************
Ok, I'll dat. tks so much!

fever is very common among children. Especially when they are in a closed-up environment like childcare whereby when one kid is sick, everybody will be sick. The most important thing to do when a kid is sick is to avoid all forms of medications such as anti-biotics if it is not serious.
A viral infection such as flu is not a bacterial infection. Always standby Bio-C to feed the children as it is the best form of natural medicine for the children.

Addicted to junk food? Blame Mum
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mum's unhealthy eating habits during pregnancy and breastfeeding makes kids more prone to eating unhealthily, say scientists August 17, 2007
EVER wondered why you just can't resist ice cream, hamburgers, and doughnuts?
| |
You might want to blame your mother for that.
New research done on rats has shown that children whose mothers eat junk food during pregnancy and breastfeeding may be more likely to overeat, choose an unhealthy diet and grow obese later in life, Reuters reported.
Previous studies have shown that children born to obese mothers are likely to be overweight, but the new findings are some of the first to look at what behaviours may be triggering unhealthy eating habits, the researchers said.
'It indicates there is a foetal programming for overeating,' said ProfNeil Stickland, a researcher at the Royal Veterinary College in London who worked on the study.
BEHAVIOUR PROGRAMMING
'The foetuses are getting used to this junk food during gestation,' he added in a telephone interview.
'It is not just genetics,' he said.
'We can show a direct link to what the mothers eat and how it affects the children.'
In the study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, researchers took two group of pregnant rats and gave one a diet of junk food such as doughnuts, muffins and sweets and fed the other nutritional pellets.
Surprisingly, Prof Stickland said, there was no effect on birth weight.
But when the young rats were weaned, the team found that the rodents whose mothers ate junk food put on weight more quickly, had a taste for unhealthy food and gorged.
Studying rats has implications for humans because the mechanisms controlling appetite are similar in many species, Prof Stickland said.
The study also attempts to better understand what drives appetite, a process controlled by brain centres that respond to signals telling us when we are hungry and when we are full.
The research indicated that the young rats may be overindulging because as they eat more, the 'pleasure centres' in the brain stimulated by sugary foods need increased amounts of food to reach the same level of satisfaction.
'Exposure to a maternal junk food diet during their foetal and suckling life might help explain why some individuals might find it harder than others to control their junk food intake even when given access to healthier foods later in life,' Dr Stephanie Bayol, a researcher at the Royal Veterinary College who led the study, said in a statement.
Prof Stickland added: 'Future mothers should be aware that pregnancy and lactation are not the time to over-indulge on fatty and sugary treats on the assumption that they are 'eating for two'.'
However, Ms Fiona Ford, a research nutritionist from the University of Sheffield, told BBC News that in the absence of strong evidence that the same effect was present in humans, it would be wrong to make women feel guilty about eating some unhealthy snacks during pregnancy.
'A balanced diet is important during pregnancy,' she said.
'While this is interesting research, these mechanisms are so finely tuned that I don't think we understand them yet.'
Dr Atul Singham, from the Institute of Child Health in London, was equally sceptical about whether the study could apply to humans.
He said: 'This is what we are looking into - but at the moment there is no data in humans to support this, and obviously it is very difficult to carry out intervention studies such as these in pregnancy.'

What's Wrong With Milk?
| you can view the entire article from this link. Patrick Holford is a well-known nutritionist in UK. he had written many books on various topics. you can find his books in all singapore major bookstores. take a look at this article. Perhaps, we should advice our friends around us to stop drinking milk.
What's Wrong With Milk?
Half the world don't drink it.
A word of caution: For the average person milk is a very important source of vitamin D, calcium and protein. If you choose to stop drinking milk make sure your diet includes both fish (for vitamin D and protein) and seeds, nuts, beans and lentils (for calcium and protein), or supplements providing enough vitamin D and calcium. Provided you have these nutrient needs covered there is no need to drink milk. If you'd like to read my in depth interview about milk with Professor Jeff Holly then please click here By the way, have you read the disclaimer? |
G6PD (Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) Deficiency
| Please read this article before continuing. A person with G6PD can take any supplements. I would recommend the person to take a high dose of anti-oxidants since G6PD condition is prone to oxidative stress. Instructions to take: after breakfast/after lunch/after dinner/before sleep

Children Coughing
Hi Kenny
My friend's 7 year old son frequently cough. Would you
recommend our Chewable C?
What other supplements may be helpful ?
For someone with warts, would you recommend Milk Thistle ?
What else may be helpful ?
-------------------
hi ,
sorry for the late reply. here are some suggestions:
1) if the boy windpipe gets irritated easily, the boy can take some chewable calcium/magnesium to relax it. for dosage, he can take 5 to 6 per day.
2) is the boy sleeping in the air-con environment? or is it due to the haze? sometimes, if the air is too dry, it will make us cough. so, there is a need to put humidifier in the room. if the boy cough when the environment is cold, then, the boy should not sleep with the air-con on.
3) As for diet, no cold food or drinks. no fried, oily and etc...
4) Take cod liver oil to get vitamin A. It will help to strengthen the respiratory system. If the boy can swallow multi-carotene, it will help too. if not, the boy can take some chewable multi-vitamins. as for dosage, he can take up to 10 per days.
5) drink onion soup. buy 2 or 3 big brown australian onion. those that are used by the indian food stalls. not those small reddish local onions. wash it clean. chop the head and tail. do not peel. the outer skin is important. chop the onion and boil soup. they can put a some brown sugar to get some taste. brown sugar, not white sugar. boil for about 10 mins
and thereafter, drink it warm.
hope this will help
regards,
Kenny
Bedwetting
I had a question and hope you can help to ease this problem.
------
hi,
for such cases, it is usually due to weak bladder or kidney. I recommend the kid to see a reputable chinese doctor to strengthen the organs. Any Eu Yen Sen clinic will be a good choice.
Alternatively, you may want to try this.
1) Protein Powder: 1/1/1/-
2) B-complex: 3/3/3/-
3) Daily: 1/1/1/-
4) Multi-carotene: 1/1/1/-
5) Lecithin E: 2/2/2/-
I suggest you blend it for the kid to drink. The parent
may want to add some fruits to put in some taste.
Some pointers to take note:
1) Do not drink anything 1 hour before sleep
2) No cow's milk, simple carbohydrates and fast-food. Bedwetting at this age maybe caused by food allergies.
3) The kid self-esteem maybe affected. The parents play an
important role to encourage the kid and solve the problems.
Regards,
Kenny
